TASTING :

This magnificent, amber-colored wine develops aromas of softly acidic dried figs that mingle with notes of sweet spices, followed by more surprising notes of fresh licorice. The finish is astonishingly long.

PERFECT AGREEMENTS :

This twenty-year-old wine reveals astonishing youthfulness and freshness. Enjoy it with blue-veined cheeses such as Roquefort, or with chocolate and dried fruit desserts. Open an hour before serving and serve at 15°C.

PLOTS, TERROIR, CULTIVATION.

Decomposed schist and black marl, south-facing. Soil maintained by ploughing. The age of the Grenache vines, trained in gobelet style, is over 40 years. Average yield is 18 hl/ha, with planting densities ranging from 3,500 to 4,000 vines/ha.

GRAPE VARIETIES :

90 % Grenache noir, 5% Maccabeu, 5% Carignan

GRAPE HARVEST :

Hand harvesting. Destemmed picking

VINIFICATION :

The grapes are macerated for 30 days to extract the aromas and polyphenols contained in the berries, to obtain a beautiful structure between fruit, alcohol and sugar.

BREDDING AND BOTTLING :

Aged for one year in glass carboys placed outside, then in 350 hl oak tuns. This particularly long breeding period, the hallmark of Mas Amiel, enables the wine to acquire great maturity of aroma and structure.

WINE ENTHUSIAST

Amber hued, this wine has an aromatic nose of dried fig, leather, caramel, toasted almonds and wet leaves. Additional falvors of yogurt and brioch emerge on the finish and with good concentration. Drink now or serve with a cheese course. Already aged for 20 years, this dessert wine will continue to improve in bottle for another 20 years if you have the patience. R.S.

JAMES SUCKLING.COM

An expressive nose with baked plums, hints of prunes, roasted meat, caramel and spices. Textural and lively with patina. Structured with a core of fruit at the center and plenty of spices around the edges and towards the flavorful, focused finish. Drink or hold.

HACHETTE GUIDE 2019

Mas Amiel is doing the splits, offering this year a young garnet and this aged maury, which has waited twenty years in large chestnut barrels, in the shadow of the farmhouse. A wine that tells its story of black fruits and cherry gradually transformed into prune, cocoa, coffee and walnut characteristic of rancio. It has kept its power, its presence, but has rounded out, calmed down, retaining a beautiful freshness that balances its sweetness, before the walnut takes over the finish.
