TASTING :

An enchanting wine. Its color lightens with age. It reminds us of tobacco leaf, praline, coffee liqueur and roasted almonds. Then it switches to an old orange liqueur in the world of spices. A lively wine with dazzling freshness. A stunning finish with a gentle, structuring bitterness.

PERFECT AGREEMENTS:

This 30-year-old wine reveals surprisingly young, fresh characters. A perfect agreement with blue-veined cheeses or mature Comté cheeses. Perfect with desserts based on pralines and dried fruit. Open one hour before serving and serve at 15°C.

PLOTS, TERROIR, CULTURE:

Decomposed schists and black marls, southern exposure.
Soil maintenance by plowing. The age of the Grenache vines, trained in goblet form, is over 40 years. The average yield is 18 hl/ha with planting densities of 3500 to 4000 vines/ha.

GRAPE VARIETIES :

90 % Grenache noir, 5% Maccabeu, 5% Carignan

GRAPE HARVEST :

Hand harvesting. Destemmed picking

VINIFICATION:

Mutage on grains followed by a 30-day maceration to extract the material (aroma, polyphenols) contained in the berries and thus obtain a beautiful balanced structure between fruit, alcohol and sugar.

BREEDING AND BOTTLING:

Aged for one year in glass carboys placed outside, then for more than 30 years in 350 hl oak tuns. This particularly long aging, a true signature of Mas Amiel, allows the wine to acquire great maturity of aromas and structure.

ROBERTPARKER.COM

My favorite of the multi-vintage blends, the NV Maury 30 Ans is similarly colored to the 20 year, with an amber/toffee and semi-opaque color. Beautifully ripe, with lots of candied licorice, almond, old cigar and brown sugar, it’s medium to full-bodied, perfectly balanced and has vibrant acidity that keeps this lively and highly drinkable. Slightly less sour than the 20-year release, with more fruit, this beauty is drinking spectacularly today.

A complex nose with dried fruit, grilled meat, dried herbs, black earth, walnuts, ripe plums and spices. Focused, polished and harmonious with a lively, vibrant mid-palate. Textural and pleasantly bittersweet towards the flavorful finish. Drink or hold.

GUIDE TO THE FRENCH WINE REVIEW 2023

The Maury 30 Year Old is also superb with candied orange, Medjool date and coffee; the alcohol is perfectly integrated and the sweetness controlled.
