Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France - Revue du Vin de France 2023 : Coup de Coeur 94

At 433 meters above sea level, the plots of Croix d'En Rodrigues are the highest and most spectacular of MAS AMIEL. The vines plunge towards the sea and the Roussillon plain. They look at the rising sun and highlight the character and freshness of the granites. A very strong terroir, planted in 1962, all in contour lines.

TASTING:

Remarkable fresh, salivating and powdery expression of Lladoner and Grenache from high altitude on gneiss. First feminine and floral on the rose petal then airy and powerful at the same time. A “sparkling” attack then a grain of ultra-quenching tannin, a bit like “tannin bubbles”. A harmonious structure between enveloping roundness and liveliness. Finesse and elegance.

PERFECT AGREEMENTS:

Roast pheasant, veal with morels or chanterelles.

PLOTS, TERROIR, CULTURE:

Altitude of 433 m. The vines of this cuvee are located on the plots of the Croix d'En Rodrigues (2.5HA). A strong terroir, a high altitude terroir. The soils are composed of granite arenas of gneiss and micaschists. 433 m, "extreme" altitude, the Croix d'En Rodrigues looks at the rising sun and highlights the character and freshness of the granites.
There is an original lineage between all the terroirs and soils of MAS AMIEL: the "layering" of the rocks that compose them. Calcoshists and Micaschists are metamorphic cousins. Micaschists and altitude give this inimitable shine to ALT. 433 M. We touch the rock ...
Old vine, trained on old goblets over 70 years old, cultivated 100% biodynamically. Soil maintenance by plowing and use of biodynamic preparations. The average yield is around 20 hl/ha with planting densities of 4000 vines/ha for these old Lladoner de Grenache vines.

GRAPE VARIETIES:

2.5 ha planted in 1962 in contour lines, of Lladoner Pelut and Grenache black which plunge towards the sea and the Roussillon plain. Lladoner Pelut is a natural mutation of Grenache Noir (particularly concerning the villosity) or the reverse as the grape varieties are ampelographically close.

GRAPE HARVEST:

Manual, double manual sorting of the bunches on conveyor belt and vibrating table, destemming.

VINIFICATION:

In 50 hl stainless steel cuve. Grenache and Lladoner are vinified together.

BREEDING AND BOTTLING:

Breeding in concrete cuve until bottling.

GUIDE TO THE FRENCH WINE REVIEW 2023

Alt. 433 m, from Lladoner Pelut and Grenache on granite, is distinguished by its very beautiful notes of grapefruit, blood orange and its powdery tannins. A very beautiful wine, which has brilliance and energy.
