TASTING:

Emblem of MAS AMIEL, OISEAU RARE offers a pure, precise and dynamic style.
The Grenache identity strikes from the outset with a very fresh and juicy grape nose, then switches to a basket of fresh strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. It is an aromatic origami where notes of dried rose petals mingle with wild cherry and rockrose. We then travel to a more sappy, aniseed, mentholated universe. Origami of textures, the gourmet tactile mouth of fruits, becomes creamy and salivating. The powdery and refreshing tannins are the signature of the schist and its mineral panoply. We taste the fruit of the rock. OISEAU RARE, emblematic wine of the identity and style of the old Grenaches of MAS AMIEL.

PERFECT AGREEMENTS:

A tagine and blood oranges, a pastilla or beef stew. A fish like monkfish roasted with smoked bacon.

PLOTS, TERROIR, CULTURE:

Oiseau Rare illustrates both the landscape and the terroir of MAS AMIEL. Like a plot origami, it synthesizes a set of plots. With its perfect mastery of the different schist terroirs that complement each other, MAS AMIEL asserts a pure, precise, complex and dynamic style. The multiple plots of our conservatory of old Grenache black are trained in goblet.
A 100% biodynamic culture for a generation allows us to reveal the natural balances. Light scratching of the soils and use of biodynamic preparations allows us to accompany the schist terroir towards the wine.

GRAPE VARIETIES:

Great pride of MAS AMIEL its plant heritage, a conservatory of old Grenaches, the oldest of which were planted in 1914. MAS AMIEL is determined to transmit and inscribe the identity of Grenaches across generations.

GRAPE HARVEST:

Manual harvest, double manual sorting of the bunches on conveyor belt and vibrating table, destemming.

VINIFICATION:

Vinification on the plot in stainless steel cuve. Native yeasts for fermentation, without any oenological input or SO2. Very gentle vinification by infusion in total respect of the textures of the grape and the soil.

BREEDING AND BOTTLING:

breeding in cuve until bottling without any addition of SO2. Light sulfiting before bottling.

GUARD TIME:

5 to 10 Years

JAMES SUCKLING.COM

Aromas of dark plums, racy wild blueberries, strawberries with dried herbs and cured meat. It’s medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins. Elegant and transparent, yet full of characters with mineral, raspberries and cherries on the palate. Vibrant finish accentuated by clarity and purity. From biodynamic and organic grapes. Delicious now, why wait?

17.5/20

JANCIS ROBINSON

A soaring wine of rain and rocks and roses. It fills the mouth vertically and then wide, like choral music filling the high vault of a cathedral. Delicate dryness in the tannins brings breath and pauses, increasing the tension and lengthening the echo of its harmonies. Real purity and purpose.

GUIDE TO THE FRENCH WINE REVIEW 2023

On the red side, Oiseau Rare is an originality combining Grenache, Carménère and a hint of Syrah. A fairly rich wine in terms of touch, with peppery notes.
